Ok, There was snow in Maui...

No kidding.  Our trip to Maui was great except for the weather.  Rain, winds, and yes snow on Mt. Haleakala.  They had to close down the park, especially those down hill bike rides due to slush on the roads.  Matt and I chased the sun across the island, and tried to make the best of it.  We spent a lot of time in the car (it seemed to take forever to get from one place to another.)  I don't remember all the traffic from our last trip there five years ago.

Below are "car sketches" as I tried to make use of all the time in the car.

This picture at left, is a quick sketch (you may not be able to tell- but I can) of a rock slide on the Kula road.  The Kula road is on the slopes of Mt. Haleakala and overlooks the southeast side of Maui.  From this road there is an amazing view of the ocean, and of the lava fields in Makena.  While we were driving on this road, we had one of the few sunny days in which to enjoy it!  We were able to go about 27 miles until the road was closed off due to a rock slide.

This picture is a quick sketch of the rolling green hills in Maui.  You look up, and there they are.

This sketch is from our lanai.  We stayed in Kihei, and from there we could see whales spouting and flapping their tales off in the distance.  This quick sketch is of the hills near Maalea.

Because the weather was so crummy Matt wasn't able to body board as much as he wanted to.  Sadly he only went once.  To make up for that,  we ended up doing a lot of snorkeling in Makena.  We ended up seeing quite a few turtles- four, as well as eels, and loads of fish.  The snorkeling was pretty amazing.  The colors and texture of the coral and the fish, will keep me sketching for quite some time.
