Grandpa.

Just so you know, my chair pieces range from three inches to one foot in height.  They were the perfect size for my small workspace.  After creating several I decided that I wanted to display them more formally.  I wanted to make shadow boxes and light boxes that would better accentuate my work.

With th_grandpa32.jpgis goal in mind, I turned to my grandpa who can make just about anything in wood.  Since his eyesight was failing, and his hands were no longer steady,  he taught me what to do.  From working together like this, I was able to communicate with him on his own turf, and it opened a door to our relationship.  We became really, really tight.  He bought me my tool box, my first set of chisels, my drill and bits and assorted other goodies.  I would travel up to visit him and my grandmother at least once a month and would hang out with them and have the full run of my grandfather's shop.  I was just in time, because after about a year of working together, he passed away.  I am to this day so grateful that I discovered him, and to this day I miss him like crazy.
